Climate change may wipe some Indonesian islands off map

2035 : the Indonesian capital's airport will be flooded by sea water and rendered useless

Actual news: climate change may wipe some Indonesian islands off map

Well I read this news several days ago actually. This really scares me to death following the news I read about the collapsing UN Climate Change Conference, and that Al Gore's speech there. Whoo, and while environment ministers from those 180 or more countries are discussing how to cut the emission from industrial countries, the Arctic has had melted 552 billion tons of ice this summer, according to preliminary satellite data to be released by NASA Wednesday. That's 15 percent more than the annual average summer melt, beating 2005's record.

Another day in peril. Haahaa. Indonesia is really vulnerable now. And while by 2080 Jakarta would lose 10 km inland from lapping tides, by 2030, Indonesia would lose 2000 islands off our map if sea levels continue to rise. By 2050, 24% of Jakarta will disappear. Yoo, I advice you my mates who live in Jakarta Utara, say hello to new home!

Obviously, what I keep saying about my hottthotthott Jakarta would continue permanently to grow. Temperatures are likely to rise between 1,1 - 5 celcius this century alone. Wow. I feel sorry for the generations after me. :(

And another thing about our-(hopenotsosoon)-to-be-underwater Jakarta is: we'll have more, more, moreee beaches and sea (oh, b**ch). Sea levels would rise 0,87cm per year till 2080. Isnt having more beaches like this is greatly, amazingly, SCARY?

Okay. If we're going to be underwater-ized, then this one maybe wouldnt surprise you mates in J-town. The next big thing who'll replace our beloved megapolitan city is Bandung. Keep in touch okay friends in Bandung, I think I'll join you in one or two decades.

Nah, I'm quite concerned for those who live in near north/south pole. Isnt the great change is amazing? The surface area of summer sea ice floating in the Arctic Ocean this summer was nearly 23 percent below the previous record. The dwindling sea ice already has affected wildlife, with 6,000 walruses coming ashore in northwest Alaska in October for the first time in recorded history. (source: ominous arctic melt)

Principally white ice reflects the heat off Earth surface. But when those white ice melts, about 90% heat goes to the ocean which would rise sea temperatures and an increase in sea levels, AND warm everything else up -- more, more melting.

Wow, is in 2008 Jakarta's going to be an oven? -_-"
